At CERB, we believe that responsible business begins with the wise use of resources. That’s why we are seeking new applications for residual material from the technological mix used in the production of foundry molds. Instead of being landfilled, this material can be repurposed as a valuable secondary resource.

The material is a residual technological mix used in foundry mold production, stored in Big Bag containers on the company’s site for the past 3 years.

Composition of the mix:

• Quartz sand with a grain size of 0.16 mm or 0.25 mm;
• Approximately 2% phenol-alkaline resin type AlpHaset (water-based alkaline binder);
• Hardener TRAGUM (RSF TRAGUM N.12 IBC) from Hüttenes-Albertus Chemische Werke GmbH (DE).

Safety data sheets and quality certificates from the manufacturer are available for the materials.

Regulatory status:

• The mix is not classified as hazardous under Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 (CLP).
• It does not contain substances subject to restrictions or authorizations under REACH, nor SVHC, PBT, or vPvB substances at concentrations ≥ 0.1%.

According to available information and practices in other countries (e.g., Finland), AlpHaset waste mixtures are classified as non-hazardous waste – class 2 or 3.

Potential applications:
The residual material can be:

• Landfilled;
• Used in road construction –
  • as a filler material for class 3 roads, municipal, forest, and private roads;
  • as backfill soil above groundwater level (class 2);
• Used in the construction of sidewalks;
• Applied in other industrial uses.

AlpHaset waste mixtures have also been used in many other industrial sectors:

• Production of decorative elements for gardens and parks;
• Other applications.
