The battery market in our country is developing rapidly – we are currently seeing a global boom in batteries. Business and electrical engineering follow a clear logic, and after the increased interest in photovoltaics, we are now seeing significant demand for batteries. This was stated by Dimitar Beleliev, PhD, Chairman of BASEL, on the show “Business Start” on Bloomberg TV Bulgaria with host Roselina Petkova.
Benefits of batteries The household market cannot feel this rapid development of photovoltaic systems and batteries, as the price for households is expected to increase by 3-4%. The effect will become visible when the market itself is liberalized.
“At a next stage, end household consumers will be able to take advantage of the benefits.”
According to the interviewee, the price for business is very acceptable, and companies are satisfied with what is happening in the market. Investments in RES are already growing at very serious rates, and there is already talk of comprehensive solutions. The investment for a household is comparable to a major roof renovation. Batteries are part of these complex solutions.
Europe is a leader in the demand for such systems, and geopolitical problems can now hardly affect the market – the supply is huge. The guest added that the main markets of Bulgarian companies are not only in Europe or the Balkans.
In Bulgaria, we have loved the “do-it-yourself” system for a long time. We look for and apply the cheapest solutions. Companies and citizens should look for professionals and trust a company that has not been on the market only since yesterday.
European regulations A person can install batteries wherever they want. However, a few things need to happen quickly, because a large battery is like a small bomb. “It is important for the institutions responsible for security to exercise adequate control,” explained Beleliev.
Once a battery reaches the end of its life, it still represents a resource. “In a few years, the price of old batteries will be comparable to that of new batteries at the moment,” the interviewee pointed out.
Recycling in Bulgaria is a big problem, and the entire process takes place outside of Bulgaria. With the entry of batteries and with a normal policy, we can see a new business, as the space is not developed.
The biggest misconception is the desire of investors to recoup their investment within a year or a year and a half. The normal return is about seven years. “The market will continue to develop at a rapid pace, but as part of complex systems,” predicted Beleliev.
